Colin Thurmond – Classical Guitar for November 4th Cocktail Reception for Scholarship Dinner</p>
<p>Colin Thurmond is currently pursuing his Masters of Music with Maestro Ricardo Iznaola Iznaola after graduating Magna Cum Laude and being awarded the 2007 Senior Recital of Distinction and the Elective Recital of Distinction in the same year.  He was also prizewinner in the University Concerto Competition in 2007 and twice a prizewinner in the University Chamber Music Competition. He has studied composition with Stephen Goss from the University of Surrey and with William Hill and Chris Malloy from the University of Denver. In addition, Colin maintains a passionate interest in chamber music, performing with Eisteddfod, voice and guitar duo. Thurmond interests include a strong commitment to contemporary music, aiming for the expansion of repertoire through composition and commissioning of new works.</p>

The youngest of the group, Andre Hafner, Violin II, is a freshman from South Dakota interested in pursuing a double major. Emily Hall, Viola, is a sophomore from the Denver region. Janis Sakai, Violin I, is a junior from Chicago, Illinois. Andrew Brown, Cello, is a transfer student from the University of Iowa and is a first year student at Lamont. The group is under the instruction of Katherine Knight.</p>

The Clark Smith Trio is a modern jazz tenor trio, which features Max Abrahams on acoustic bass, Justin Ehmer on drums and Clark Smith on tenor saxophone. The trio is rooted in the music of the jazz greats, but also draws inspiration from modern jazz and world music.  Besides the Clark Smith Trio, Max, Justin, and Clark play in the seven man progressive rock/fusion group Bokonon, which just released an EP for free download at their website <a href="http://www.bokononmusic.com./" target="l">http://www.bokononmusic.com.</a> Clark and Justin also make up the electro hiphop duo DYNOHUNTER, which features Justin Ehmer, AKA “Plutonik and Clark “The DYNOHUNTER” Smith.
